Providence Care

Background

Providence Care replaced the current St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital and Mental Health Services buildings. Located in Kingston, Ontario, the new 622,000-square-foot Providence Care Hospital includes 270 private inpatient rooms, as well as modern therapy and clinic spaces for inpatients and outpatients. It is among the first hospitals in North America to fully integrate long-term mental health care with physical rehabilitation and complex care programs in the same facility. The new hospital opened in April 2017.

Solution

Paladin was selected by EllisDon in February 2015, to provide Integrated Security and AV systems. Paladin’s solution for Providence Care Hospital included CCTV integration, access control, PLC doors, distress, duress, camera call-ups, and Connexall (nurse call, patient wandering, Vocera, and fire alarm) integration. This involved replacing the existing proprietary solutions and upgrading card readers to iClass.

Paladin implemented DYNATROL (DYNamic Annunciation and conTROL) to seamlessly marry these discrete security systems into a single GUI, therefore creating an easy-to-use system that consolidated the various technologies commissioned throughout the hospital.

With custom programming, Paladin helped to modify the newly integrated systems to better meet the needs of Providence Healthcare, including programming card readers to interface with fire alarm and intercoms. Paladin’s sophisticated integration allowed for Providence Care to centralize their monitoring and control into a user-friendly system that saves their security operators more time.
